Southwest Dance was born out of the realization that youth in Southwest Detroit did not have access to programs that advance the art of dance. In 1999, Christine Blunden, introduced to the love of moving to music at the age of 3, began to teach nineteen students one night a week in ballet, tap and jazz. Now, four years later, Southwest Dance holds class three nights a week teaching everything from ballet to breakdance. In class kids learn concepts that will help them in life as well as dance.
