Teatro Chico (Little Theater)
Living Arts’ flagship community event is Teatro Chico. Spanish for "Little Theater," Teatro Chico is a performance series that presents outstanding youth and professional Detroit artists in Southwest Detroit at the Mexicantown Mercado. Multiple art disciplines are showcased including dance, music, visual art, storytelling and performance art. Events often include drop-in art making workshops. Teatro Chico is suitable for all ages and youth are free of charge. A suggested donation of $10.00 per adult at the door is appreciated.
The next Teatro Chico performance, Sofrito of Cultures is an interactive mix of Afro-Latin music and dance from around the world in Southwest Detroit. The program is Saturday, May 19, 5:00 p.m. at the Ford Resource & Engagement Center. Performers include Chi Amen-Ra, Armando Vega, Penny Godboldo, Ozzie Rivera and the Living Arts' Youth Dance Ensembles. Join us at 4:45 p.m. for a procession with the artists across the pedestrian bridge across from the FREC Mexicantown Mercado plaza. We will be gathering on the west side of the bridge for the procession, on the corner across from La Gloria Bakery (3345 Bagley Ave.).
This performance will be suitable for the whole family, and will happen rain or shine.
