Professora Sabiá (She/Her)
Movement Teaching Artist
Professora Sabiá is the director and head instructor of Capoeira Detroit. She has trained in Capoeira for over 19 years and taught for 14. Beginning her journey in 2007, she became the leader of Capoeira Detroit in 2013, earned the rank of Instructor in 2019, and graduated to Professora in 2025. She teaches workshops, seminars, and master classes for schools, universities, martial arts events, and community organizations across the country.
For Professora Sabiá, Capoeira is more than movement—it is a connection between music, culture, history, and self-discovery. Her teaching is rooted in the belief that these elements are inseparable. Through Capoeira, she creates opportunities for people to move, connect, learn, and experience the richness of Afro-Brazilian culture.

A: “Ms. M...Did you realize you only make money because of us? We basically pay your bills.”

A: Garnet from Steven Universe! She's awesome and we could trade dance moves!
Q: What art form or hobby have you always wanted to try?
A: Fiber Arts, Sewing!
